“The Vietnamese Princess and the English King”

“The Vietnamese Princess and the English King”

An Alfred x Yidu fanfiction written by an author under the peudonym of Lê Thị Hồng.

King Alfred, ruler of the Kingdom of Wessex, had always been intrigued by the exotic and mysterious culture of the Far East. He was particularly taken with Princess Yidu, the daughter of a Vietnamese king. Her delicate features and graceful movements reminded him of a lotus flower swaying in the breeze.

One day, as they were strolling through the royal gardens, King Alfred turned to Princess Yidu and said, “You are truly the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.”

Princess Yidu smiled shyly and replied in Vietnamese, “Cảm ơn anh, ngài quá lịch sự” (Thank you, your Majesty, you are too kind).

King Alfred was surprised to hear her speak in a language he did not understand, but he was intrigued. “What did you say, Princess?” he asked.

“I said, ‘Thank you, your Majesty, you are too kind,'” Princess Yidu replied, this time in English.

King Alfred smiled. “You speak Vietnamese?”

“Yes, I do,” Princess Yidu said. “My mother was from Vietnam, and she taught me the language when I was young.”

“That’s impressive,” King Alfred said. “Would you mind teaching me a few words?”

“Of course not,” Princess Yidu said, smiling. “What would you like to learn?”

“How do you say ‘hello’?” King Alfred asked.

“In Vietnamese, we say ‘xin chào’,” Princess Yidu said, demonstrating the proper pronunciation.

“Xin chào,” King Alfred repeated, trying to mimic her accent. “And how do you say ‘thank you’?”

“Thank you in Vietnamese is ‘cảm ơn’,” Princess Yidu said, pleased that the king was taking an interest in her language.

“Cam on,” King Alfred repeated, trying to remember the phrase. “I think I’m getting the hang of this.”

For the rest of their visit, King Alfred and Princess Yidu continued to practice their Vietnamese together. They laughed as they stumbled over the words, but soon they were able to hold simple conversations in the language.

As they said their goodbyes, Princess Yidu said in Vietnamese, “Mong anh sẽ quay lại” (I hope you will come back).

King Alfred smiled and replied, “Chắc chắn rồi” (Definitely). As he rode away, he couldn’t help but think of the beautiful princess and the magical land of Vietnam.
