The Ogham Bride
A piece of King Alfred fanfiction written by Fenris_Wolf.
As I wandered through the forest, I came across a magnificent oak tree. It was massive and its branches reached towards the sky, as if beckoning me to come closer. As I approached, I noticed that there was something carved into the bark. It was an Ogham inscription, a language of ancient symbols used by my ancestors. I traced the lines with my finger, trying to decipher their meaning. Suddenly, a voice behind me startled me out of my thoughts. “That is a powerful symbol, Lady Eadgyth,” the voice said. I turned to see a man standing there, tall and strong with piercing blue eyes. “Who are you?” I asked, my heart beating fast in my chest. “I am Bivaidonas, son of the tribe Cunava,” he replied. “And you are Lady Eadgyth, daughter of the nobleman Ælfric.” “How did you know my name?” I asked, feeling both curious and apprehensive. “I have heard of your quest to discover the meaning of this symbol,” he replied. “And I have come to help you.” Together, we spent hours studying the Ogham inscription. Bivaidonas showed me the hidden meanings within the symbols, and I was amazed by his knowledge. As the sun began to set, I realized that I had never felt so alive as I did in that moment. Later that night, as I lay in my bed, I couldn’t help but think about Bivaidonas. There was something mysterious and alluring about him that I couldn’t ignore. I fell asleep with his words echoing in my mind. Days passed, and I couldn’t stop thinking about Bivaidonas. I longed to see him again, to learn more from him. And then, one day, he appeared before me once more. “I have something to show you,” he said, his eyes shining with excitement. We walked through the forest, until we came to a clearing. There, in the center of the clearing, was a small pool of water. As we approached, I saw that there was something shimmering beneath the surface. “What is it?” I asked, my heart beating faster. “It is a symbol,” he replied, his voice low and intense. “A symbol of love and passion.” Before I knew it, his lips were on mine, and I was lost in a sea of desire. It was a moment of pure magic, as though the very trees themselves were watching over us. Later, as we lay together, our bodies entwined, he whispered into my ear, “I am not just Bivaidonas, son of the tribe Cunava. I am also King Alfred, ruler of Wessex.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. The man I had fallen for was not just a mysterious stranger, but a powerful king. But in that moment, it didn’t matter. All that mattered was the passion between us, the love that had grown from our shared fascination with the ancient symbols of our heritage. And as we lay together, watching the stars above, I knew that our love would endure, just like the Ogham inscription on the tree in the forest.
