鳥笛
鳥笛 (“Bird Flute) is an album is inspired by three very short themes about Japanese birds, composed specially for me by Long Island composer Patrick Meagher. Click here to listen to it on Spotify.
These themes capture the fleeting beauty of birds, like a brief moment where they flit by, bringing a sense of peace and wonder. On the album, I explore these melodies through various flutes, creating unique variations that I’ve performed at venues like the Domkerk Utrecht – during Night of Light in de Dom – and the Utrecht library.
Next to the original bird-inspired music with variations, 鳥笛 features meditative music inspired by Maegher’s themes, with elements rooted in neuropsychological research. Alongside nature sounds like bird and water, the use of drones – long, sustained tones – has been carefully integrated to influence brainwave activity. Frequencies like alpha (8-12 Hz) and theta (4-8 Hz) waves promote relaxation, focus, and creativity, while offering a calming environment for yoga or moments of reflection, especially for neurodiverse individuals.
Thus, this album is a tool to relax, reinvigorate, and connect with nature’s rhythms. Realised with support of Japan Fans and the Japans Cultureel Centrum Utrecht.
