Robyn<\/em><\/a> aka <\/em>DxTURA<\/em><\/a> just made a dream come true: he wrote this awesome fanfic in which <\/em>The Witcher meets <\/em>King Alfred, for which he used <\/em>my translation of the first story<\/em><\/a> as well as <\/em>my own fanfic about King Alfred<\/em><\/a>. Yeah! What a great way to start the new year! ^_^ Thank you so much, Robyn<\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

They called him the White Wolf. Rivian\nTrash. The liar. The thief. The one who wouldn\u2019t rest until every nook and\ncranny he traveled through was plagued with one curse or another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One moment strangers would treat him with\nkindness, and the next moment they would shout obscenities and throw all sorts\nof glassware, weapons, and other miscellaneous objects in his direction. Women\nwould pull their children close while men would make sure to leave a cut or\nthree on him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They believed he was there to cause\nproblems, when \u2013 in truth \u2013 he was looking for answers of his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geralt. That was his name, not like\nanyone cared. He was by no means an old one \u2013 unless, of course \u2013 one judged by\nthe soul. His hair was white, laced up under the neck and on the shoulders. He\nalways walked on foot and by the bridle, usually leading a heavily packed horse\nalthough after today\u2019s bout? Not much remained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snow tangoed with the wind that blew\nagainst the frosty trees. He could see his own breath, and his body trembled \u2013\npart in cold and part in wounds. He had wrapped some clothes around the wounds\nhe sustained, and decided it would be best to walk a path that wasn\u2019t\nwell-traversed at this time of night. He feared, with his hometown making the\nrounds, he would be spotted and ambushed on site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was sure he could take them. He just\ndidn\u2019t want to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each slow step he took crunched against\nthe small amounts of snow and grass. He put a break in his movements, however,\nupon hearing quick, clattering movements coming from in front of him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He unsheathed his sword and pointed it\nforward. Blurs of browns, silvers, and blacks formed into easier shapes.\nPeople. People in robes and armor. People that were coming toward <\/em>him. So people did <\/em>still\nuse this route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trio of horsemen stopped dead in\ntheir tracks, although one \u2013 presumably the leader \u2013 took a few more steps\nforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They and Geralt stared at one another,\nalthough the White Wolf only pointed his sword further forward. It was that\nalone that made the person laugh a short and soft laugh. A man\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man pulled his hood off and began\nspeaking at once. \u201cWell. This is certainly a greeting I\u2019ve had many a time\nbefore. Come now, good sir. There\u2019s no need to prepare for battle in quiet\ntimes like these.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geralt eyed him from head to toe. It was\na man wearing a circular, golden piece of headwear. His hair was a precise\nbrunette curtain, swept over a broad forehead. His nose was thin and sharp. His\neyes were brown, and somehow expressed sadness and hope simultaneously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He kept his sword out, but set it to his\nside. The other merely nodded in response, though his expression narrowed soon\nafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geralt blinked, but said nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man turned to the others; he must be\nof great import if they were dressed the way they were. How interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSet up camp in the trees nearby. We will\nstay here for tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSir.\u201d The two responded in unison and\nbegan unpacking with haste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He turned back to Geralt, who \u2013 honestly\n\u2013 if he kept boring his eyes into the others like that, he just might burn them\noff the surface. He extended a hand out to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThose wounds will get infected if you\ndon\u2019t tend to them.\u201d He was smiling. Had he been smiling this entire time? \u201cYou\nlook like you need a rest, too. Come. Stay the night with us and recover.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geralt finally spoke out. \u201cThat won\u2019t be\nnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regal stranger sized him up again.\nThat accent wasn\u2019t anything he\u2019d heard before. Similar to some, but not exact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe winter is deadly, you know.\nSomething tells me you\u2019re not going to last long in your travels like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geralt pursed his lips. They weren\u2019t\nwrong; his horse had slowed and constantly tilted his head towards him as if\nsearching for some sort of sustenance. They had torn apart his goods and\nransacked him in the previous town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any longer and he might just have nothing\nbut his weapons and flesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man came closer with a torn piece of\nhis robe in his hands. Geralt gripped his hilt, ready to slice him down if need\nbe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet, all they did was gently touch his\narm and wrap it around a cut that had blood trickling down the shoulder. When\ndid that <\/em>one get there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlfred, king of Wessex.\u201d He uttered\nsoftly, \u201cWe were making our way back home and felt the long way around would\u2019ve\nmade for a nice scenic trip. We should have expected the snow, though.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geralt tensed and didn\u2019t move. How long\nhas it been since such kindness graced his presence?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom where do you hail, good sir?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geralt didn\u2019t respond to that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFar off, huh? No matter. Explains your\naccent.\u201d The way Alfred pointed it out wasn\u2019t volatile by any means. Did he not\nknow of Rivia? \u201cCome, come. We\u2019ve packed enough food to share with others as\nwell. My men won\u2019t hurt you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMost kings would send their men to smite\non the spot.\u201d Geralt finally mustered a response. Alfred had finished wrapping\nthe wound up and stepped back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell. I\u2019m not like most kings.\u201d He\nsmiled, \u201cBeing honest, it is not everyday we see a man such as yourself walking\nabout like this. It is a death wish. A death wish that makes me want to learn\nmore about yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He turned his back to Geralt and shuffled\nover to the trees the small smoke was coming from. His horse had already been\ntaken by the others while they were chatting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGeralt.\u201d Alfred stopped in his tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPardon?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGeralt.\u201d He finally sheathed his sword\nand was right behind him not long after. \u201cGeralt of Rivia. You have my utmost\ngratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfred\u2019s smile grew wider, and he\nextended his hands out. \u201cA pleasure. Come. Let\u2019s talk more after we warm and\nstuff you silly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
